Psalm 1

Psalm 28

Officiant	O God, make speed to save us.
All	O Lord, make haste to help us.
	Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

The following Psalms are read

Psalm 1

Blessed is the man
who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, *

nor stand in the way of sinners,
nor sit in the seat of scoffers.

But his delight is in the law of the LORD, *

and on his law he meditates day and night.

He is like a tree planted by streams of water,
bearing fruit in due season
and whose leaf does not wither. *

In all that he does, he prospers.

The wicked are not so; *

but they are like chaff that the wind drives away.

Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, *

nor the sinner in the assembly of the righteous.

For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, *

but the way of the wicked will perish.

Psalm 27

The LORD is my light and my salvation; *

whom shall I fear?

The LORD is the stronghold of my life; *

of whom shall I be afraid?

When evildoers advance against me
to eat up my flesh,
my adversaries and my foes, *

it is they who stumble and fall.

Though an army encamp against me, *

my heart shall not fear;

Though war should arise against me, *

even then I will be confident.

One thing I have asked of the LORD, *

that will I seek after:

That I may dwell in the house of the LORD
all the days of my life, *

to behold the beauty of the LORD
and to seek him in his temple.

For in the day of trouble he will hide me in his shelter; *

he will conceal me in the cover of his tent;
he will set me high upon a rock.

And now my head shall be lifted up *

above my enemies all around me,

And I will offer in his tent sacrifices of shouts of joy; *

I will sing and make music to the LORD.

Hear my voice, O LORD, when I cry aloud; *

have mercy on me and answer me!

You have said, “Seek my face.” *

My heart says to you,
“Your face, LORD, I will seek.”

Hide not your face from me,
nor turn your servant away in anger. *

You have been my help;
do not abandon me nor forsake me
O God of my salvation!

Though my father and my mother forsake me, *

the LORD will take me in.

Teach me your way, O LORD, *

and lead me on a level path
because of my enemies.

Deliver me not into the will of my adversaries; *

for false witnesses have risen against me;
they breathe out violence.

I believe that I shall see the goodness of the LORD *

in the land of the living!

Wait for the LORD; *

be strong and let your heart take courage;
wait for the LORD!

Psalm 28

28   To you, O LORD, I call;
    my rock, be not deaf to me,
  lest, if you be silent to me,
    I become like those who go down to the pit.
2   Hear the voice of my pleas for mercy,
    when I cry to you for help,
  when I lift up my hands
    toward your most holy sanctuary.

3   Do not drag me off with the wicked,
    with the workers of evil,
  who speak peace with their neighbors
    while evil is in their hearts.
4   Give to them according to their work
    and according to the evil of their deeds;
  give to them according to the work of their hands;
    render them their due reward.
5   Because they do not regard the works of the LORD
    or the work of his hands,
  he will tear them down and build them up no more.

6   Blessed be the LORD!
    For he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy.
7   The LORD is my strength and my shield;
    in him my heart trusts, and I am helped;
  my heart exults,
    and with my song I give thanks to him.

8   The LORD is the strength of his people;
    he is the saving refuge of his anointed.
9   Oh, save your people and bless your heritage!
    Be their shepherd and carry them forever.

After the Psalms, the Officiant begins

The Lessons

The Lessons for Friday

	Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh? Then your light shall break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up speedily; your righteousness shall go before you, and the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; you shall cry, and he will say, “Here I am.” Isaiah 58:6-9a

	For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:8-10 ESV

	Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed upon us, that we should be called children of God, and such we are! For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know him. Beloved, we are God’s children now; and what we will be has not yet been revealed, but we know that when he is revealed, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 1 John 3:1-2

Officiant	Lord, have mercy

All	Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

All	And let our cry come to you.

The Officiant concludes

Heavenly Father, send your Holy Spirit into our hearts, to direct and rule us according to your will, to comfort us in all our afflictions, to defend us from all error, and to lead us into all truth; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O	Let us bless the Lord.
A	Thanks be to God.
