Mid-Day Prayer
Led by Fr. Michael Thorne Jarrett

Psalm 46

Psalm 65

Psalm 146

Officiant O God, make speed to save us.
All O Lord, make haste to help us.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

The following Psalms are read

Psalm 46
God is our refuge and strength, *
an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth be moved, *
though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea,
Though its waters roar and foam, *
though the mountains tremble at its surging.
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, *
the holy habitation of the Most High.
God is in the midst of her; she will not be moved; *
God will help her when morning dawns.
The nations rage, the kingdoms fall; *
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
The LORD of hosts is with us; *
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Come, behold the works of the LORD, *
what desolations he has brought on the earth.
He makes wars to cease throughout the earth; *
he breaks the bow and shatters the spear,
and burns the chariots with fire.
“Be still, and know that I am God; *
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!”
The LORD of hosts is with us; *
the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Psalm 65

65   Praise is due to you, O God, in Zion,
    and to you shall vows be performed.
  O you who hear prayer,
    to you shall all flesh come.
  When iniquities prevail against me,
    you atone for our transgressions.
  Blessed is the one you choose and bring near,
    to dwell in your courts!
  We shall be satisfied with the goodness of your house,
    the holiness of your temple!

  By awesome deeds you answer us with righteousness,
    O God of our salvation,
  the hope of all the ends of the earth
    and of the farthest seas;
  the one who by his strength established the mountains,
    being girded with might;
  who stills the roaring of the seas,
    the roaring of their waves,
    the tumult of the peoples,
  so that those who dwell at the ends of the earth are in awe at your signs.
  You make the going out of the morning and the evening to shout for joy.

  You visit the earth and water it;
    you greatly enrich it;
  the river of God is full of water;
    you provide their grain,
    for so you have prepared it.
10   You water its furrows abundantly,
    settling its ridges,
  softening it with showers,
    and blessing its growth.
11   You crown the year with your bounty;
    your wagon tracks overflow with abundance.
12   The pastures of the wilderness overflow,
    the hills gird themselves with joy,
13   the meadows clothe themselves with flocks,
    the valleys deck themselves with grain,
    they shout and sing together for joy.

Psalm 146
Praise the LORD! *
Praise the LORD, O my soul!
I will praise the LORD as long as I live; *
I will sing praise to my God while I have any being.
Put not your trust in princes, *
nor in any son of man, in whom there is no salvation.
When his breath departs, he returns to the earth; *
on that very day his plans shall perish.
Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, *
whose hope is in the LORD his God,
the maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them; *
who keeps faith forever;
who executes justice for the oppressed, *
who gives food to the hungry.
The LORD sets the prisoners free; *
the LORD opens the eyes of the blind.
The LORD lifts up those who are bowed down; *
the LORD loves the righteous.
The LORD watches over the foreigner; *
he sustains the widow and the fatherless,
but the way of the wicked he will utterly remove.
The LORD will reign forever, *
your God, O Zion, throughout all generations.
Praise the LORD!

The Lessons

The Lessons for Saturday

From the rising of the sun to its setting my Name shall be great among the nations, and in every place incense shall be offered to my Name, and a pure offering; for my Name shall be great among the nations, says the LORD of hosts.
Malachi 1:11

I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
Romans 12:1-2

As obedient children, do not be conformed to the lusts of your former ignorance, but just as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct. For you know that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ. He indeed was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake.
1 Peter 1:14-15,18-20

A brief silence is kept after the readings.
Please pause the service if you would like more time.

THE PRAYERS

All Christ, have mercy
  Lord, have mercy

All Our Father, who art in heaven,

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.
