Psalm 17
Hear a just cause, O LORD; attend to my cry! *
Give ear to my prayer from lips not deceitful!
Let my vindication come forth from your presence! *
Let your eyes look upon the things that are right!
You have tried my heart, you have visited by night,
you have tested me and have found nothing; *
you have tested me and have found nothing; *
I have purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.
As to the deeds of man, *
by the word of your lips
I have avoided the ways of the violent.
I have avoided the ways of the violent.
My steps have held fast to your paths, *
that my feet may not stumble.
I call upon you, O God, for you will answer me; *
incline your ear to me and hear my words.
Wondrously show your faithful love, *
O Savior of those who take refuge
from those who rise up against your right hand.
from those who rise up against your right hand.
Keep me as the apple of your eye; *
hide me in the shadow of your wings,
From the wicked who assault me, *
from my deadly enemies who surround me.
They close their unfeeling fat hearts; *
with their mouths they speak arrogantly.
They have tracked me down; they have now surrounded me; *
with eyes alert to cast me to the ground;
Like a lion eager to tear, *
like a young lion lurking in ambush.
Arise, O LORD! Anticipate him and cast him down! *
By your sword, deliver my soul from the wicked.
By your hand, deliver me, O LORD, from men, *
from men of the world whose portion is in this life.
You fill their belly with treasure; *
they are satisfied with children
and leave their abundance to their infants.
and leave their abundance to their infants.
As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness; *
I shall be satisfied when I awake in your likeness.
